Dr Karolina Zielińska-Dąbkowska, scientist of the Faculty of Architecture of the Gdańsk University of Technology has won the Galileo Award from the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA). The jury appreciated her scientific contribution to the fight against light pollution.
In her work, the laureate identified many negative effects of artificial night light on human health, the functioning of ecosystems and the environment.
– Dr Zielińska-Dąbkowska works with decision-makers to combat light pollution, using the lighting standards and guidelines for practitioners.
IDA rewards individuals and groups that play a key role in strengthening the global dark sky movement by fighting light pollution – a phenomenon caused by improper lighting at night or the use of advertising billboards.
