Dr Patrycja Orłowska-Feuer from the Faculty of Biology of the Jagiellonian University (UJ) in Krakow received a scholarship under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – MSCA program from the European Commission. The research and training grant will enable her to conduct pioneering research in Manchester.
Dr Patrycja Orłowska-Feuer as part of the received 2-year scholarship will conduct research at Manchester University along with Prof. Robert Lucas.
The project aims to “compare the participation of melanopsin cells (the so-called third type of photoreceptors found in the retina of mammals) in the processing of visual information in nocturnal (mouse) and daytime rodents (Rhabdomys; grass mouse – a rodent closely related to mice found in the wild in Africa and with daily activity)”. This will be the first in the world comprehensive comparison of the functioning of the visual system in rodents closely related, but leading a different lifestyle.
