Dr Maurycy Żarczyński from the Faculty of Oceanography and Geography of the University of Gdańsk has become the laureate of this year’s Bekker NAWA scholarship program. The young scientist will spend a year and a half on paleoclimatological research at the American Nothern Arizona University in Flagstaff.
During the internship, Dr Żarczyński will implement the project “Reconstruction of environmental changes in the glacial-interglacial cycle over the last 1.3 million years recorded in the sediments of Lake Stoneman (Arizona, USA): an innovative approach using hyperspectral imaging”. The tutor of the young scientist will be Prof. Darrell Kaufman, one of the leaders of international research in palaeoclimatology.
The Bekker NAWA Award is one of the flagship programs of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange. During their stays – lasting from 3 to 24 months – scholarship holders together with foreign researchers carry out scientific projects or postdoctoral internships and develop international cooperation.
