Dr Wojciech Bielski from the Faculty of Agriculture, Horticulture and Bioengineering at the University of Life Sciences in Poznań received funding under the Sonatina competition from the National Science Center. The scientist will carry out the project “Molecular basis of the mechanisms of flowering induction variability and response to vernalization in wild lupins of Old World (Lupinus perennis)”.
The main goal of the research is to decipher the mechanisms of flowering induction in wild species of Old-World lupins and to understand their diversity within individual species. Understanding the diversity of flowering dates in these plants can significantly facilitate the selection of the appropriate line for domestication as the source of the desired traits in the process of improving modern cultivars.
Grants under the Sonatina competition are intended to cover the costs of full-time employment of winners in Polish research units, basic and applied research and foreign internships.
