Professor Krzysztof Sośnica from the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław became a member of the Governing Board of the International Laser Ranging Service (ILRS).
The Wrocław scientist is the first Pole in the IRLS management group – an institution associating laser observatories located all over the world and centers for processing laser distance measurements to artificial satellites and the Moon. ILRS provides fundamental observations and products used in various areas of satellite geodesy, physics, astronomy, geophysics, Earth sciences and the environment.
SLR laser technology (Satellite Laser Ranging) is used to implement global geodetic reference systems providing the most accurate information on the location of the center of gravity of the Earth’s mass, the so-called geocentrum, where the beginning of global reference systems is usually assumed.
