Researcher of the University of Wrocław becomes an Ig Nobel laureate

25.09.2020

Dr Agnieszka Żelazniewicz of the Department of Human Biology of the University of Wrocław was awarded the Ig Nobel Prize. She was awarded for trying to quantify the relationship between national income inequalities in different countries and the average frequency of … kissing on the lips.

The Ig Nobel Prizes are the humorous counterparts of the Nobel Prizes – for peculiar scientific works that “make you laugh first, and then make you think”, and discoveries that “cannot or should not be repeated”. This year, they were awarded for the 30th time, traditionally, by the Annals of Improbable Research.

Dr Żelazniewicz conducted the research together with an international team of scientists from Great Britain, France, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Australia, Italy and Norway. The Ig Nobel award ceremony related to the pandemic took place online. All laureates received a diploma and a $ 10 trillion note… in Zimbabwean currency, with a real value of a few US dollars.
