Researchers from the Faculty of Physics of the University of Warsaw (UW) are developing digital attachments for operational microscopes, thanks to which the microscope image can be displayed on the monitor.

Until now, operations under the microscope are usually done so that the surgeon sits for many hours leaning over the microscope and observes the operating field through a pair of glasses.

– Our solution allows surgeons to look at a very large, three-dimensional screen displaying what the microscope sees, instead of looking into microscope glasses, – said Dr Piotr Wasylczyk, assistant professor at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw.

He emphasizes, that such an attachment to existing microscopes is the first step for them to re-develop completely a digital stereoscopic microscope.
