Researchers from Olsztyn patented a device for absorbing CO2

17.01.2019

Researchers from the Department of Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn: Prof. Mirosław Krzemieniewski, Prof. Marcin Zieliński and Prof. Marcin Dębowski patented a device for CO2 absorption in the Polish and European Patent Office.

Their invention is based on the principle of capturing CO2 by algae. Researchers from Olsztyn created algae concentrate. Then they developed a method of transform it into capsules made of organic gel. The CO2, light and heat needed for the algae are supplied by the special installation. Algae would produce pure oxygen instead of CO2.

Olsztyn scientists are raising money to launch a pilot installation. They hope that their solution will be interesting for coal-fired power plants and heat plants.
