An article authored by Prof. Joanicjusz Nazarko, and Katarzyna Bokun, from the Faculty of Management Engineering at the Bialystok University of Technology (PB) was published in the May issue of the prestigious journal Progress in Planning, published by Elsevier.
The interdisciplinary paper by the Bialystok-based researchers “A bibliometric analysis and state-of-the-art literature review”, provides a characterisation of contemporary challenges – spatial, economic, social, demographic, environmental, cultural and technological – facing rural areas around the world.
The authors present and analyse the multidimensional concept of the smart village. They draw attention to the crucial importance of an in-depth recognition of the endogenous potential of an area and its specificities, the rational use of existing and new technologies, and the involvement of local communities in the development of their small homelands. The study creates a methodological basis for planning, designing and implementing smart village projects.
