15.06.2018

During the excavation works in northwestern Albania, researchers from the Center for Research on Antiquity of Southeastern Europe of the University of Warsaw discovered the remains of the settlement from over 2,000 years ago.
The excavations revealed coins and ceramics from the Hellenistic era, as well as remains of stone structures referred to as the Cyclopean walls. The archaeological excavation campaign lasted several days and resulted in discovering a gate with two bastions and defensive walls covering an area of about 20 hectares.
The researchers’ goal is now to determine the actual name of the discovered city. There has been speculation that it can be Bassania destroyed at the beginning of our era by the Romans.
