Researchers from the Gdańsk University of Technology are working on supporting children with autism spectrum disorders. Thanks to a special social robot with simplified humanoid features, the therapy of children with autism will be much easier.
Children with autism spectrum disorders suffer from many deficits, including limited social and emotional skills. This affects their ability to communicate and interact with adults and peers. While the relationship with other people is difficult for many such children, the relationship child-robot looks completely different.
The University of Technology is implementing the EMBOA project, which aims to develop guidelines and then practical evaluation of the use of emotion recognition technologies by robots in children with autism. The project involves universities from Poland, Great Britain, Germany and Turkey, as well as the Macedonian Association of Applied Psychology.
