Researchers of the University of Gdańsk developed a non-invasive test for detecting urinary tract cancer

05.01.2021

Researchers of the University of Gdańsk have developed a non-invasive diagnostic test that allows for the quick and effective detection of urinary tract cancer, as a result of which 4,000 men die every year in Poland. The invention has been patented.

The greatest advantages of the test include the non-invasive nature of the test, the diagnostic efficiency of approx. 80%, less than 60 minutes of waiting for the result, high efficiency even in the initial stage of the disease, and the possibility of performing the test using a small urine sample (approx. 1 ml).

The authors of the invention “Chemical compounds that are used as diagnostic markers of inflammation in cancer, the method of obtaining them, a diagnostic marker and a method of diagnosing inflammatory processes of epithelial cancers” are Prof. Adam Lesner and Dr Natalia Gruba. The search for a business partner for the final implementation on the market and the development of technology towards the creation of a diagnostic kit is underway.
