Researchers from the Medical University and the University of Wroclaw will jointly analyze the medicinal preparations described in the texts from 400 years ago. The project, scheduled for 4 years, will start this year.
The group of scientists from both universities is led by Dr Jakub Węglorz from the Department of Polish and General History of the XVI-XVIIIth cent. Historians from the University of Wrocław will collaborate with researchers from the Department of Pharmacognosy of the Medical University in Wroclaw.
The sources of knowledge of scientists are primarily the records of personal experiences and memories of authors from four centuries ago – diaries, notes, letters. Such notes – in the opinion of the researchers – show the actual picture of medical practices, which could significantly differ from the patterns known from the medical literature of that time.
The project “Reconstruction and analysis of medicinal preparations identified on the basis of ego- documents from old Polish period (XVI-XVVIII century)” is financed under the Sonata Bis 7 competition.
