Scientists from Gdansk, Krakow and Lodz will develop an online monitoring system for detecting pollutants in stormwater drains and rainwater retention reservoirs. The installation is intended to support efficient water management in the city in times of climate change. It is to be the first such advanced system in Poland and will be tested in Sopot.

A consortium of researchers from the Gdansk University of Technology, the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow and the Lodz University of Technology, as well as the PM Ecology company, will develop, manufacture and implement the modular MoReLogg system for monitoring pollution caused by human activity.

The project will develop a measurement system consisting of sensors and biosensors for the early detection of water contamination and the presence of, among others, pesticides, neurotoxins or polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which end up in the water environment as traffic pollutants from, among others, the abrasion of tyre rubber and asphalt and from exhaust fumes.
