The Department of European Studies of the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Collegium Civitas, in cooperation with the Department of Political, Historical and Regional Geography of the University of Lodz, on 17 May 2019, are organizing a scientific conference in Warsaw’s Palace of Culture and Science “Divided cities, divided islands”.
During the conference, the political, social and economic situation of selected islands and cities divided by the state border as a result of various historical processes will be analysed.
The organizers are particularly interested in how the divided regions manage in the 21st century in a world where borders disappear or do not play a major role in personal traffic and trade.
The list of proposed divided cities includes Gubin, Zgorzelec, and the islands: the Cyprus or the Uznam (Świnoujście-Heringsdorf).
