The Scientific Publishing House of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń has received the prestigious Jan Długosz  Award for the book by Prof. Michał Roch Kaczmarczyk “The Aporia of Freedom. Criticism of Social Theory”. The book was published in the series “Monographs of the Foundation for Polish Science”.

– The author makes a far-reaching selection in accordance with the bold and original assumption that in many social or sociological theories the central theme is the eternal problem of freedom that makes it difficult to understand and reconcile between the determinism of natural being, the human biological organism and free will, subjectivity that determines the truly human side of man, makes him a unique existence in the world – says the jury member of the competition, Prof. Piotr Sztompka.

The aim of the competition is to popularize a scientific book in the humanities, its jury consists of outstanding scientists.
