Dr Eng. Rafał Szabla from the Faculty of Chemistry at the Wrocław University of Science and Technology conducts research that may explain how DNA and RNA were created, i.e. the beginnings of life on Earth.
The scientist conducts research in an interdisciplinary international team. Researchers are using computational and quantum chemistry techniques – using advanced molecular design programs and computing-intensive computers. Thanks to this, they can learn about the molecular properties and chemical parameters of the particles, which the experimentalists then study in the laboratory.
Dr Szabla is an Assistant professor at the chemistry department of Wrocław University. He manages a research team financed by the National Science Center. The research is basic, but the knowledge about the structure of DNA and RNA can be used in many areas: nanotechnology, medical therapies or drug design.
