Dr Barbara Fiałkiewicz-Kozieł from the Faculty of Geological and Geological Sciences at the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Poznań conducts research on the bog “Na Równi pod Śnieżką”, in cooperation with the University of Silesia, the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow, as well as specialists from Argentina and Great Britain.
This is one of 12 sites that scientists selected during the Anthropocene Working Group (AWG) forum as a possible border between geological epochs: the ongoing Holocene and the new – the Anthropocene. The project, in which the researcher from Poznań takes part, is a milestone in understanding the global reach of human activity and a way to understand the importance of peat bogs on Earth
AWG is an international team of specialists who collect evidence from “natural archives” (lake and sea sediments, peat, coral reefs and stalactites) proving unprecedented changes occurring around the world.
