Professor Piotr Dziegiel from the Medical University of Wrocław became a laureate of the Polpharma scientific grant. The theme of this year’s competition was: “Search for gripping points for targeted therapy using the immune system and search for mechanisms of resistance to currently used methods of immunotherapy”.
Professor Dziegiel’s project – “The importance of SATB1 protein as a new target in the immunotherapy of breast cancer using adoptive T-lymphocyte transfer” – has received funding of almost 600,000. PLN.
The researcher’s goal is to investigate whether Tc lymphocytes specific for the SATB1 protein can be used in the treatment of human breast cancer. Research will be carried out on both the cancer cell lines and the animal model – mice implanted with human breast cancer cells. The results may contribute to the development of new methods of immunotherapy for breast cancer, which are easy to apply and relatively inexpensive.
