Professor Jerzy Limon, director of the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theater, theater specialist, writer and academic teacher from the philological faculty of the University of Gdańsk, became a laureate of the 21st Prof. Alexander Gieysztor’s Award Competition.
The award has been granted for 21 years for outstanding achievements in the field of protecting Polish cultural heritage. This year it was awarded for the creation of the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theater as a unique place, combining tradition and modernity. The laureate is an outstanding expert on Shakespeare and the Elizabethan age, an English philologist, historian, translator of English literature, theater specialist and writer. He is a research worker and academic teacher at Polish and foreign universities.
Previous winners include Elżbieta and Krzysztof Penderecki, Leon Tarasewicz, Anda Rottenberg, Prof. Norman Davies and institutions: Social Committee for the Care of Old Powązki and the Ossolinski National Institute in Wrocław.
