Professor Wiesław Banyś from the philological department of the University of Silesia will act as the chairman of the scientific council of the Paris station of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN). At the same time he was elected a delegate to the council of all scientific stations of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the world.
The PAN Scientific Station in Paris is a scientific unit with over a hundred years of tradition. The beginnings of its activity date back to 1893. It cooperates with such centers as the French Academy of Sciences (Académie des Sciences de l’Institut de France), Center National de la Recherche Scientifique and UNESCO.
The most important tasks of the station are the promotion of Polish science, organization of conferences, symposia, seminars, lectures, meetings, exhibitions and other scientific events, development of cooperation and scientific and cultural contacts between Poland and France and Francophone countries, assistance to scientists and trainees, scholarship holders, students coming to France for research or educational purposes.
