Scientist of the University of Warsaw wins the IJCAI Computers and Thought Award

Dr Piotr Skowron, the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics of the University of Warsaw (UW) won the prestigious IJCAI Computers and Thought Award. The prize is awarded to outstanding young scientists who deal with artificial intelligence.

The researcher received it for his contribution to the computational theory of social choice, in particular for research on the issues of committee elections.

Dr Skowron is interested in combining ideas of fair distribution of resources theory, approximation algorithms with game and computational social choice theories.

The Computers and Thought Award is granted by the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI). The award was granted for the first time in 1971 to Professor Terry Winograd, Stanford University, creator of SHRDLU, a computer system in the field of artificial intelligence, used for natural language processing.
