Dr Eng. Szymon Zelewski, Wrocław University of Technology became a laureate of the Bekker Award funded by the National Agency for Academic Exchange. He will spend the next two years at the University of Cambridge, where he will study the mechanisms of non-radiative recombination in perovskite materials.
– Perovskite materials are considered revolutionary semiconductor materials, because they can be used for photovoltaics and for all kinds of sensors, for X-ray detectors or LEDs in televisions. They are very universal materials with a wide range of applications. I will study their basic physical properties in order to assess the factors limiting the efficiency and life of devices, the so-called non-radiative recombination processes – says the laureate.
The group in which the Polish scientist will work consists of about 30 people. The head will be Dr Samuel Stranks, winner of many prestigious awards and one of the most cited researchers in the world.
