Dr Jan Major from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology will study the properties of Majorana fermions – structures found in some superconductors and super-liquid substances. He received a grant from the National Science Center for his project, and its results can be used to develop quantum computers.
The project “Dynamic properties of Majorana-type excitations in non-trivial topologically ultracold superfluid gases of fermions” will be devoted to theoretical description and numerical simulations of these objects, their dynamics, the way how they react to external influences and how they interact with each other. In particular, they can be used to create a resilient memory in quantum computers.
The grant is 326,000 PLN. First, Dr Jan Major will conduct his research in Wrocław, and during the two-year scholarship he will spend four months working with Prof. Joachim Brand at Massey University in New Zealand.
