The organization EASAC (European Academies’ Science Advisory Council), associating 28 European academies of science, including the Polish Academy of Sciences, has published the document “Packaging Plastics in a Circular Economy”, in which scientists from European academies of science warn that the combat against plastic pollution requires urgent systemic reforms.
The authors of the report are emphasizing that without coordinated reforms it will not be possible to protect the natural environment, biodiversity and human health against damage generated by plastics. These are tasks for both the rulers and industry.
European legislators should adopt rules and incentives to accelerate the transition to a circular plastic economy. People need to reuse plastic goods and packaging, dramatically improve recycling, and, above all, ensure that no waste gets into the environment, – says the EASAC report.
