Scientists from the Lodz University of Technology join an international research project

10.09.2019

Scientists from the Lodz University of Technology will conduct innovative research as part of the international project HIPERION (Hybrid Photovoltaics for Efficiency Record using Integrated Optical techNology). The European Union has allocated EUR 10.6 million for its implementation.

The coordinator of the project Dr Eng. Jacques Levrat from Center Suisse d’Electronique et de Microtechnique SA – Recherche et Developpement (CSEM) from Switzerland emphasizes that the implementation of the project will enable the construction of a pilot installation for the implementation of breakthrough photovoltaic technology.

– Our role in the project is to determine the environmental effects associated with construction, operation, maintenance, as well as waste management after the end of the system’s life cycle. The specific task concerns the determination of the “environmental payback period”, after which clean energy produced by the panels will compensate for the environmental expenditure incurred for the construction and operation of the system – explains Prof. Ireneusz Zbiciński, project coordinator.
