Scientists appointed by the president of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) have prepared a draft amendment to the Act on the PAN to reform this institution.

The main goal of the proposed changes is to rationalize and strengthen the position of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the science and higher education system, which will lead to a stronger presence of Polish science in the world science system, strengthening the application of international research and education standards (including through the use of international advisory bodies) and a more frequent presence of the Polish Academy of Sciences in debates on important issues of public life.

The solutions proposed by the Academy, which are included in the draft amendment to the Act on the PAN, assume: autonomy of the PAN and respect for the independence of the institutes, reform of the Academy authorities and improving relations of the institutes with the corporation, greater supervisory powers of the President of the PAN, clarification of the status of senior members, stronger connection PhD education with research, greater structure flexibility and solutions to facilitate internationalization.
