Medical physicists from the Faculty of Exact and Technical Sciences of the University of Silesia in Katowice, have started cooperation with clinics and hospitals in the Śląskie Voivodeship as part of research devoted to the use of thermal imaging in the diagnosis of various diseases.
Using experience and thermal imaging cameras, scientists from the Institute of Biomedical Engineering will support combat against coronavirus pandemic led by the National Institute of Oncology Maria Skłodowska-Curie, the National Research Institute Branch in Gliwice and the University Clinical Center Prof. K. Gibiński Silesian Medical University in Katowice.
In these centers, thermographic screening tests are carried out to determine the presence of elevated body temperature of patients and staff. Lack of contact with the examined person and almost immediate measurement result are the main arguments for using thermal imaging to check if a given person’s temperature is elevated.
