Scientists from the Warsaw University of Technology to research secrets of the past

31.01.2020

Experts from the Warsaw University of Technology (PW) will conduct geophysical surveys in the basement of the Staszic Palace in Warsaw. They will check whether the premises hide the Archives of the Polish Youth Union “Zet” – one of the most important underground organizations operating under the partitions of Poland in 18th century.

-We will carry out geophysical surveys of previously selected rooms in the basement of the Staszic Palace – explains Dr Anna Lejzerowicz from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology. It is likely that the “Zet” Archive was hidden there. The ground penetrating radar (GPR) method will be used, which allows quick and non-invasive way to obtain high resolution geophysical data.

The GPR method is often used in civil engineering, geotechnics or archeology and is great for searching underground infrastructure objects or voids in walls or other heterogeneities.
