Researchers from the Gdańsk University of Technology together with the Kępice commune are creating an innovative system of collection and segregation of municipal waste. As part of the intelligent Municipal Waste Management System (SMOK) the commune will provide underground garbage tanks equipped with an electronic user identification system.
This solution is part of a new organization of selective waste collection points as multifunctional elements of small architecture. Its aim is also to raise the awareness and involvement of residents in the selective collection of municipal waste.
The project “Kępice rubbish in the Econet – an innovative waste management system” took the third place in the competition of the Ministry of Development “Human Smart Cities. Smart cities co-created by the inhabitants. ” As part of the project worth PLN 1.6 million, SMOK will be created and tested on the multi-family unit housing estate in Kępice.
