Scientists from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Computer Science of the Gdańsk University of Technology won a competition for a research project within the 26th Siemens Award Competition. The jury of the competition awards the best works that have a chance to be implemented and used in practice with the support of Siemens.
The awarded work is “Smart autonomous road signs for adaptive control of vehicle traffic.” The aim of the project is to improve the safety of traveling on public roads through the conceptual development, construction and testing of a new type of smart road signs that will enable the prevention of the most common collisions on highways.
Smart road signs communicate the speed calculated in relation to the information received from a series of similar signs placed along the motorway section, connected to each other via a wireless network, optionally with the possibility of using remote control.
