Two scientists of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń became the laureates of the Maestro and Sonata Bis competitions organized by the National Science Center.
Thanks to a grant from the Maestro competition, Dr Ben Derudder from the Faculty of Earth Sciences and Spatial Management will implement the project “Polycentric city regions: identification, measurement and development”. Its purpose is to provide a framework for research into “polycentric urban regions” and to substantially broaden our understanding of their distribution, significance and future development.
In the Sonata Bis competition, Dr Małgorzata Olejnik, faculty of biological and veterinary sciences received a grant for the project “Mechanism of salinomycin toxicity – causes of differences in species sensitivity of chickens and turkeys”. The results of its tests – using both traditional toxicological methods and modern bioanalytical techniques – could be used in agriculture and health care.
