Researchers from the Department of Demography and Statistics at the University of Wrocław (UWr), carried out an expert study to estimate the actual population of the capital of Lower Silesia. It turned out that 893,506 people live in Wrocław, almost one third more than according to the Central Statistical Office (CSO).

Data from the CSO, the National Census or PESEL show that there are between 600,000 and 675,000 inhabitants of Wrocław. But they do not take into account immigrants or people who are not registered in the city, but actually live there. There are almost 900 000 such people together with the registered ones.

“We have taken into account not only 11 large databases, such as information from the Central Statistical Office or the National Census, but also such information as enrolment in kindergartens, the location of new housing estates and even buildings and land-use complexes or the Spatial Information System of Wrocław”, says Robert Szmytkie, PhD, UWr professor.
