Two scientists from Wrocław University of Science and Technology became the finalists of the 21st Scientific Awards of the Polityka weekly. The finalists in five categories were selected by the professors’ chapter consisting of 347 experts.
In the category of technical sciences, the finalist is Dr Eng. Anna Kubicka. The researcher works at the Department of the History of Architecture, Art and Technology at the Wrocław University. She deals with the reconstruction of the historical stages of the construction of buildings and cities, reconstruction of the form and function of historic architecture.
The finalist in the category of exact sciences is Dr Eng. Rafał Szabla. He is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Chemistry and the leader of a research team financed by the National Science Center. In his research, he focuses on the influence of UV radiation on the formation of organic molecules on the young Earth and on chemical reactions that could lead to the synthesis and selection of RNA and DNA from the so-called prebiotic soup.
