Researchers from the Wrocław University of Technology architecture department created the portal “From the gord to the castle” containing plans, visualisations and sections of about 200 Silesian medieval fortifications, castles and manors. Their remains in the field can now be seen only by the expert eye of an archaeologist.
Dr Maria Legut-Pintal and Eng. Paweł Rajski collected and analyzed hundreds of files, photos and models over the past few years, using data from aerial laser scanning made available by the Center for Geodetic and Cartographic Documentation. In this way, they implemented a project financed by the National Science Center.
Researchers want to enlarge the facilities base in the future. They also think about the proposal to combine it with other similar, already existing databases, such as the Polish Academy of Sciences or the National Institute of Heritage, which present primarily historical data and the effects of previous research.
