On July 3, 2018, the Sejm (Polish Parliament Lower Chamber) adopted the Law on Higher Education and Science. In the vote, 233 deputies were in favor of the bill, 195 against and 1 abstained. Now the project will be evaluated in the Senate. After finishing the parliamentary works, it will be directed to the President of Poland.
– It is a great day for the whole academic community. Unprecedented consultations on a European scale have given a law that will change Polish science – says Piotr Ziółkowski, head of the political cabinet of Jarosław Gowin, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Science and Higher Education.
As the Ministry of Science convinces, the reform adopted by the Sejm means increasing financial support for science and higher education, providing all PhD students with a scholarship system, changing the education model, greater student protection, new academic career paths and a new model of effective university management.
