Almost 9 thousand patients were examined during a special scientific project “We can detect the most dangerous lung diseases faster thanks to artificial intelligence”. The project of the City Hospital No. 4 in Gliwice and the Silesian University of Technology was co-financed by the National Center for Research and Development.
By analyzing CT data and clinical data, artificial intelligence systems are able to provide clinical predictions that can help doctors in their daily work. The data obtained as a result of the segmentation of lung images will allow for a quantitative comparison of morphological changes found not only in COVID-19, but also in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Artificial intelligence is also able to help medical personnel, e.g. in revealing potential lesions (e.g. nodules) within the lung, when the patient does not feel any symptoms yet. The value of the project is over PLN 5 million.
