A special wheelchair that will enable people with disabilities to use mountain trails will be constructed at the Silesian University of Technology. This is the result of cooperation established with the Beskidzka Grupa GOPR (Beskidzka GOPR Mountain Volunteer Group) and the Foundation to Support Social Initiatives Without Barriers.
The cooperation will concern scientific and research activities, education and improvement of personnel, as well as the implementation of joint projects. One of these includes a project that will enable people with disabilities to use mountain paths. As part of this project, a special wheelchair and software is being developed that will designate forest and mountain trails in the Beskids that are accessible to such people.
The design of the specialised trolley is being developed at the Faculty of Transport and Aeronautical Engineering. The work is being carried out as part of the ‘Things are for People’ competition of the National Centre for Research and Development. The partners also announce the implementation of training courses – including for mountain rescuers in drone operation.
