Scientists from the Silesian University of Technology (PŚ) have developed a microcircuit for the cultivation of cell spheroids in hydrogels. It allows, among others to carry out long-term cell cultures by supplying cells with nutrients using the commonly known diffusion phenomenon.

The system designed by the PŚ researchers makes it possible to safely check how various substances affect the body, including cancer cells. This allows the processes taking place in the human body to be imitated and used, for example, to test the effects of drugs on cancer. Thanks to this, it becomes possible to limit tests directly on living organisms.

The cell culture microcircuit is the first of the innovative inventions presented by the Silesian University of Technology as part of the “TOP 100 Innovations” series. The database of innovative solutions is run and supervised by the Center for Incubation and Technology Transfer of the Silesian University of Technology.
