The Silesian University of Technology becomes the laureate of the “Initiative of Excellence – Research University” competition. The purpose of the competition was to select and support universities that will strive for the status of a research university and will be able to successfully compete with the best academic centers.

– The outcome of the first competition under the “Initiative of Excellence – Research College” program is a key element of the 4-year reform period of the Polish higher education system. This is one of the most important initiatives introduced by the Constitution for Science. It is also the culmination of several years of efforts to select research universities – said Prime Minister Jarosław Gowin announcing the results.

20 best universities were qualified for the competition. The international jury of experts in the science and higher education has selected 10 universities, which in the future will become research universities. The winners will receive a subsidy increased by 20% in the years 2020–2026.
