The Eastern Languages School of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the University of Warsaw has created an application for smartphones, facilitating the learning of Chinese, Japanese and Arabic for blind students or for those who suffer from manual dysfunction. Learning is performed “without signs”, by listening and speaking. For a year, students aim to achieve language proficiency at A2 level.
– I am sending the students a file, and their smartphones articulate it – explained Olgierd Uziembło, a lecturer who conducts classes in Chinese “without signs” at school.
The School of Eastern Languages runs classes in the languages of the former socialist countries, as well as from Middle East, Far East and African countries. The course lasts 2 years. Learning is provided according to the rules of the University Foreign Language Teaching System and exams are provided at A2, B1 or B2 level in accordance with the criteria of the Council of Europe.
