The project of a tourist center with a cafe located at the foot of the Hverfjall volcano in Iceland, by an architecture student of the Silesian University of Technology, was awarded in the international competition Iceland Volcano Coffee Shop.
The task of the competition organized by Buildner in cooperation with the owners of the Vogar farmland was to design a cafe located at the foot of the Icelandic volcano Hverfjall. The facility is intended to offer visitors a place for a drink, a rest, some information on the history of the volcano, and an exhibition space.
The works sent from all over the world were assessed by an international jury. It awarded the 2nd prize and the Archhive Student Award to Kamil Bryłka for the Volcano Visitors Center project. The main design assumption of the student of the Silesian University of Technology was an attempt to fit into the surrounding landscape, creating a design referring in its form to the context of the environment – volcano, rocks and the ubiquitous volcanic tuff.
