Beata Zjawin – a physics student at the Faculty of Physics, Astronomy and Applied Informatics at the University of Nicolaus Copernicus in Torun – has received a prestigious SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship. She is one of three Polish scholarship holders this year.
SPIE is an international association for optics and photonics founded in 1955 to develop light-based technologies. It includes members from 166 countries. Every year, it grants scholarships to outstanding students who in the future can make a significant contribution to optics and photonics.
The Toruń scholarship holder is on the first year of second-cycle studies in physics. She works in the CASTLE (Cold Atomic Space-Time Laboratory) group, deals with the search for dark matter with the help of optical atomic clocks. Zjawin has already published scientific publications.
