Paulina Pergoł, a nursing student at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Medical University of Warsaw, has won the Polish international competition for the Queen Silvia Nursing Award.

The student of Warsaw University Paulina Pergoł was awarded for the project “Letters from a friend”, consisting of a systematic exchange of correspondence between volunteers and residents of Social Welfare Homes or Homes for OAPs.

The laureate drew attention to the mental condition of the elderly people and suggested to improve it without pharmacological agents, through the correspondence with older, lonely persons who would feel important and not left.

The award was established by the Swedish Care International organization as a gift for the Queen of Sweden Sylvia.
