A group of students of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań began the expedition “PolarProject” to the AMUPS polar station in Spitsbergen. This is the northernmost Polish research station. The purpose of the expedition is to conduct research on the Arctic glaciers disappearing at an alarming rate.
The research topics of the expedition include issues in the field of geology, meteorology, climatology, glaciology and the impact of anthropopressure on the landscape. During their research, young scientists will use modern measuring tools, such as drones with built-in devices for measuring temperature, humidity and wind speed, as well as simple, proven methods of measurement.
The expedition is supported by the Polish Geographical Society. The media partner of the expedition is the travel monthly journal “Discover the World”. Already in August the journal will publish the article about the expedition, and when students return, a more detailed report on their expedition.
