Kinga Gawlik and Piotr Rajewski – students of architecture at the West Pomeranian University of Technology received the BB Student Award in a competition organized by the Bee Breeders Architecture Competition Organisers.
The competition involved designing a flamingo observation platform in the Al Wathba Wetland Reserve in the United Arab Emirates. The work was carried out as part of the subject “Specialist Design” at the Department of Contemporary Architecture, Design Theory and Methodology in the second semester of their MA studies.
The task of the contestants was to create a tourist center taking into account the unique landscape of the reserve located 40 kilometers southeast of Abu Dhabi. The project included an information center, café, terrace, gift shop, specimen exhibition space, training center, toilets and parking. The relationship between the new facility and the reserve’s ecosystem was crucial.
