Students of the environmental engineering faculty of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology carried out the “Heat in the car” experiment. On the basis of its results, the dangerous conditions for adults, children and animals staying in the sunned cars will be determined.
The experiment was carried out when the thermometers pointed to more than 35 ° C in the shade. The students used four different cars: two black, one white and a silver one. Research was conducted using an extensive measuring system with computer data logging, using portable temperature recorders and thermal imaging cameras.
The highest temperature 61.1 C degrees was recorded in a large black car. In other cars, it was about 58 ° C. The measurements indicated that not only the size of the vehicle and the color, but also the size of windows are of importance.
