First-year students of the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology (PW) Zofia Zimowska, Hanna Batyńska and Aleksander Barnaś took second place in the 120 Hours competition organized by the School of Architecture and Design in Oslo.
WUT students created a project “Zootopia”. Competition participants had only 120 hours to complete a project that addresses a complex and socially significant problem. This year’s theme was the vision of dystopia and utopia.
Polish students dealt with the problem of animal suffering nowadays. They presented it as a currently existing dystopia. Considering what the animals would like to change in their fate by gaining a voice, the students created a utopia based on equalizing the social status of animals with humans. The inclusion of animals in the community resulted in a picture of utopia, full of harmony and reconciliation.
The 120 Hours competition has been organized since 2010. Three architecture students from Oslo came up with the idea and in the following years their idea gained popularity and prestige. Today it is one of the largest architectural competitions in the world.
