546 students from over 130 world universities took part in the 27th IMC (International Mathematics Competition for University Students) competition. The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow was presented by seven students. Five Krakow students finished the competition in the top 70 and won main awards.
The competition IMC is addressed to students of the first, second, third or fourth year of studies, who are under 23 years of age. Competition tasks concerning algebra, real and complex analysis, geometry and combinatorics are selected by an international commission.
Apart from the individual classification, the contestants were divided into 96 teams. Teams of the Jagiellonian University – “Jagiellonian Sharks” and “Jagiellonian University” took 6th-7th places and 13th place respectively.
The Jagiellonian University students scored the highest number of points among Polish contestants, defeating the teams of the University of Warsaw and the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow.
