The West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, together with Energia Pomorze, has formed a consortium to develop agro-voltaic farm technology. The project will result in the implementation of a technology which, in addition to producing electricity, will be used to grow crops without the need for additional irrigation of the plantation. This is the first construction of its kind in Poland.
The AgrofarmPV will consist of more than 1,000 segments resembling “small houses”, under which plants will grow. The devices will collect energy from the sun, which can be used, for example, to drive electric tractors working on the farm or ‘handed over’ to the grid, but will also allow the collection and storage of rainwater, which will be used to water the cultivated plants.
An AgroPV installation prepared in this way will allow the soil to be kept in good condition and contribute to preventing the phenomenon of drought, which has been very noticeable in agriculture in recent years.
